Just the Tech Question (Re: Can anyone in Europe give me a hand?)

Hi All,

I see from the Schedule updates that Aiden has become my official sidekick, so
only the Technical Question in this message is valid.

I should be used to the generosity of webheads by now, but the little
sacrifices, for example staying up in front of your computer longer than you
would normally, is something really special, and heartfelt.

Thanks, Aiden!

Can anyone in Europe give me a hand?

In preparation for my presentation on May 24 at 15:00 GMT, Aiden has offered to be my sidekick, since this is the first time I'm presenting in Elluminate, and I'm still having tech problems just trying to upload my PPT.

Thank you Aiden! and Thank you Rita for trying to help me before I went on filming vacation in the USA.

I just want to ask a tech question here, since I've already spent so much time on this and I hate to give up:
After writing to the tech people at Elluminate, showing them the error message I get, they sent me a message explaining how to upload single images of each slide, but this workaround is very messy. Whether I choose gif, jpg, or png, the text part of each slide is hardly legible.

I'm running an old MS Office (Office XP, also called Office 2002) in Vista, with Firefox 3. Since I have no intention of updating the expensive MS Office, I installed Open Office, which, according to Elluminate help file, is compatible, and supposedly it is possible to upload a presentation in the native Open Office "OPD" presentation format. Alas, the format is simply not accepted (not supported as a "readable" file), at least not on this computer. Is that because I also have MS Office installed, creating a conflict, or is it more likely due to another reason?

I went through the same process in IE 7 with the same result.

The subject of this post is "Can anyone in Europe give me a hand?" since I might be keeping Aiden up too late since she is in a very different time zone as you all know. But I will need a sidekick, especially to upload my PPT for me just before 15:00 GMT. Aiden has tested on her end, and she has succeeded in uploading it as a test (I first thought there was something wrong with my PPT).

Thanks in advance to anyone who might be available in my general time zone.

I'm alone at Elluminate right now, with the 287 page PDF Moderator Help File open, and I have questions. I want to go back and forth between my site and a PPT during my presentation, which means I have to load files ahead of time.
On page 284, we read "go to Windows > File Transfer. The File
Transfer dialog box appears
." So far so good, But then the part that doesn't work for me: "Click Load File button. The Load File window appears."
There is no Load file button visible. My file transfer dialogue box does not look at all like the one in the Help file: there are no buttons at all to browse my computer's files. It's a bare box.
I wonder if one of the many competent Webheads who moderate Elluminate sessions could join me in a practice session. Any volunteers? I hate to ask anyone to sacrifice time, but I don't think I'm going to figure it all out alone.

If not, I'll use the apparently much simpler Dimdim or WiZiQ.

If anyone DOES want to give me a hand in an Elluminate practice session, I'm available tomorrow May 5 and Wednesday May 6, and then I am finally going on vacation/filming in the USA, and I get back home to my computer on tuesday May 19th, at around 9 a.m. GMT .

I'd like to present at WIAOC 2009 on May 24 at 15:00 GMT. That time slot has not yet been taken at the time of this posting.

At the moment, I'm waiting for my resuest for access to be approved so that I
can fill in the info about my presentation at
http://wiaoc09.pbworks.com/May24

In the past, I have only used WiZiQ to do a presentation. Is it possible to use
Elluminate, and just as importantly, is it possible to play with Elluminate ahead of time so that I can prepare in that venue?

Or do you have other suggestions? Would it make sense to try out Dimdim for
example?

Looking forward to this,

Best wishes to the organizers and participants.
